Empowering People: Kyle Young

Balance.

What comes to your mind with that word? As a visual person, my inner screen immediately conjures a slide show featuring a succession of images: the guy who balances spinning plates on tall, thin poles (are you old enough to remember Sunday nights with Ed Sullivan?) That blindfolded gal who’s holding the carefully balanced scales – justice, I do believe. The tight thin wire with the beautiful girl high above the crowd, balancing her small quick steps with a graceful parasol.

Each balancing. All maintaining equilibrium. But what about me, I wonder. I’m no athlete. I have no carefully practiced and orchestrated act. No set plan to follow. And yet, I know balance is important. Critical. What does balance look like for me? What keeps me in balance, and even more, how do I know when I’m seriously out of control?

When you live a busy life, as we all do, balance is always a matter of give and take. A little more of this and a little less of that. Lots of small things held in the balance by one huge, not-to-be-ignored elephant in the room. Staying in balance is never achieved by exactly the same formula twice, but rather on a case-by-case, day-to-day basis – sometimes moment-by-moment basis.

The more I think about balance and me, the more I like the image of a ship under sail. To keep her riding upright in the bounding main, her hold has to be filled with ballast. In the old days, that could have been a cargo of riches, or simply stones to balance the weight. Now I don’t know about you, but if I’m choosing how I’ll balance the ship of my life, I’m going for the cargo hold filled with gold, jewels and rare, precious finds!

So where do I find this fantastic treasure? For me, it has always been the amazing, supportive women in my life. I’ve been gifted with so many wonderful relationships that I think my theme song could be that old round we used to sing at camp, remember? ‘Make new friends but keep the old – one is silver and the other’s gold.’

I love to connect with other women, to find our common ground, explore our shared experiences. It’s something that just comes naturally to me – it always has. When I started my career, I crossed paths with one amazing woman after another and it became my habit and one of my greatest pleasures to introduce them to each other. Because you know what happens when amazing women get together – everything!

Through the years, friendships have grown, lives have been shared, and we are all the stronger – and more balanced – because of it. So you can imagine how excited I was when the amazing tool of the web came along. The ability to cross miles and time zones like the true super women we are was at the touch of our fingertips on the keyboard! I began to ask myself: If we created such strong networks of fun and support right in our literal backyards, what would happen if we could make these same wonderful connections with women across the country? Around the world? And so the idea for Multi-TaskingWoman.com was born.

I’ve always believed that we, as women, have so much more in common than we have differences. Whether we work in or out of the home. Have kids or not. What ever our age or stage of life. Just sit down with a couple of women over coffee and before you know it, they’re sharing ideas, swapping resources, and bragging on each other’s successes.

At Multi-TaskingWoman.com, we’re doing the same things. We’re all about connecting, collaborating and celebrating with each other. Women around the corner and women across the country. We know what women have always known – when it comes right down to it, we are each other’s best resource!

We help keep each other’s ships sailing high and in balance. And that treasure? For me it’s priceless!

Talk about an Empoword woman! As Kyle says her vision (see it) is to empower women to connect, collaborate and celebrate in each other lives (think it). And boy does she deliver (be it).

Kyle is connecting women across the country, forging friendships and alliances. She is championing a whole new way of networking - one that is meaningful, purposeful and joyful.

A dear college friend introduced me to Kyle. Though I have never actually met her, getting to know her over the internet and phone has been pure delight. She is smart, creative and determined.

She signed off her first email to me: keep weaving the web. And so we have. I live in Minnesota. Kyle lives in Georgia. I have introduced her to a colleague in Colorado. She has introduced me to an amazing woman in New York. And so it goes….

These connections, which are leading to exciting collaborations, are making a real difference in our lives. Something definitely worth celebrating! Thank you Kyle!
