Creating Balance: One Day at a Time

I often thrive on chaos which means I am out of balance a fair amount. Somewhere deep down, I must want to prove to myself that I can do it all. We all know the story. We can’t do it all. Things slip through the cracks. We crack. But how do you find the happy medium?

I set out to try it. Just for a day.

So after chaotic week of running my two businesses, a family and a triathlon, I packed up both kids for their first time away at overnight camp. My husband and I rented a cabin on a lake in Northern Minnesota. No agenda, no timelines. But it wasn’t the type of vacation where I swore off the phone and email and texting. I knew there were some work things I still needed to do.

It was about pace. I checked email. I had a quick work conference call. It just happened to be as I drank my tea overlooking the lake. I kayaked and had time to myself. I made a nice dinner with my husband. It was a great day. One that left me feeling renewed.

The day is captured in my memory (and photographs), so when I need a dose of balance, I can see it, think it, and be it.
