Partner Up
If doing what you love is always the last thing on the “to-do” list, this fun self-help strategy may be just the thing to get you pursuing your passion.
Pursuing our passions is important. When you pursue a passion, you inspire yourself. You also inspire others. How often have you heard someone talk about their passion and become intrigued, even moved to pursue a fun new activity yourself? Without even consciously knowing it, when you do something you are passionate about, you create excitement that invigorates, energizes and enriches.
The synergy of passion is undeniable. Use this to your advantage. Partner up!
Objective: Pursue your passion
Number of players: Two
Step One: Find a partner – a friend, a colleague, a family member, anyone who struggles to regularly make time to do what they love. Your partner may share your passion or they may have a completely different one. One of you may be interested in making handmade paper, the other in learning how to play the guitar. Your job as partners is to keep each other inspired and motivated regardless of what you are passionately pursuing.
Step Two: Make a plan. How will you inspire and motivate each other? If you and your partner share a passion, will you be pursing it together? When? How? Where?
If you will be pursuing your activities separately, how will you check in with each other? Will you meet weekly to give each other updates on what you have done, learned, accomplished? Will you talk on the phone or email?
Step Three: Commit. As part of your plan, be intentional. Make a commitment to yourselves and each other. Work to support each other’s efforts and goals. If it is helpful, set intentions, guidelines and/or deadlines.
Step Four: Share your passion. Overtime, as pursuing your passion becomes more and more second nature, you may not need a partner to keep you motivated. Still make time to share what you are doing. Remember passion is inspiring. Invite your partner (and others) to see your handmade paper or listen to you play the guitar or watch you run a race or read your most recent poem. Your excitement and interest will continue to invigorate, energize and enrich all those who are touched by what you are passionately pursuing.
